THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING!!!

Pharaonic Guardian (PGD) was the pack that ALL Zombie Monster lovers were waiting for. Before this I guess you could have a Zombie deck but it wasn't as good as what was available after PGD. A lot of really good trap cards were also introduced as well as the groups of Monsters known as the Dark Scorpions and the Gravekeeper's! Also, a group of monsters with the ability to flip themselves face-down for continuous use of their effects.

The Dark Scorpions mainly revolved around deck and hand destruction with the occasional searching and recovering for their small band. Gravekeeper's revolved around the field card Necrovalley which negated cards targeting the graveyards.

Awesome:

  • Ring of Destruction
    • Great way to destroy a monster causing you problems and possibly deal a good amount of damage to your opponent. Granted you also take damage but there are enough cards like Trap of Board Eraser and Barrel Behind the Door to counteract that damage to you.
  • Moisture Creature
    • This Fairy has good stats and its effect is great when you're able to pull it off.
  • Fushioh Richie
    • Good Stats for a Zombie Monster and it's effects are pretty solid. Only problem is it requires Great Dezard which seems a little weak for a Level 6 Monster.
  • Guardian Sphinx
    • A good monster for Defensive Decks with 2400 DEF and can repeatedly return all of your opponent's monsters to his/her hand annoying the crap out of them.
  • Don Zaloog
    • Leader of the Dark Scorpions with awesome effects albeit with weak stats but there are so many ways to increase his ATK it's not enough to mark it down.
  • Lava Golem
    • Deals A LOT of damage to your opponent every turn and gets rid of two of their monsters that are annoying you. Downside is that your opponent then has control of this 3000 ATK Monster but I'm sure you probably would have cards to make that not a problem in your deck.
Meh
  • Molten Behemoth
    • No effect and costs one Tribute for 1000 ATK but it does have 2200 DEF off the bat. Not the best defensive card in my opinion but not bad either.
  • King Tiger Wanghu
    • Fun effect but 1700 ATK isn't going to help it survive for very long. Also, the condition of the monster being Summoned and not just on the field doesn't help. Could be useful against some decks though like Dark Scorpions.
  • Dark Snake Syndrome
    • Great for a Direct Damage deck albeit the price gets really high really quick for yourself as well.
Awful
  • Hieroglyph Lithograph
    • 1000 Life Points to allow 7 cards in your hand is a steep price. Plus, when do you really need 7 cards in your hand? if you need more cards in your hand just use Infinite Cards from LON
  • Narrow Pass
    • Limits both you and your opponent to a just a few monsters but still permits 2 summons. Not that great of a card.
  • A Man with Wdjat
    • Funny name but it's effect is not that great. Only 1600 ATK.

What are some of your fondest memories with Pharaonic Guardian? Favorite cards that I missed?

My favorite pack (YGO)

Today we talk about what was probably my favorite Booster Pack ever printed: Legacy of Darkness! It followed Labyrinth of Nightmare in release and really helped flesh out Fiend, Warrior, and Dragon Decks while having a little bit for others. It also introduced the Spirit Monsters. Spirit Monsters were interesting because overall they had some really nice effects and stats but then they had the drawback of returning to your hand at the end of the turn leaving you defenseless as well as not being able to be Special Summoned. This was really a problem in my opinion for Spirit Monsters that require a tribute to summon because you just lost the tributes for a one turn attack. Granted they did have Spiritual Energy Settle Machine which allowed you to keep your Spirit Monsters on the field at the cost of discarding a card from your hand. Needless to say, if built really well a Spirit Deck could be very formidable but with less thought would just prove to be a disaster.

This pack also introduced the game's "Reset Button," Fiber Jar. This card was a lot of fun and helped in some scenarios although there were times where it wasn't going to help a whole lot due to massive Life Point differences.

Awesome:

  • Dark Ruler Ha Des (Why can't we keep Hades as one word...Disney did it!)
    • Good stats and renders Flip Effects and a lot of other effects useless if you're running a Fiend Deck.
  • Freed the Matchless General
    • A must have card for Warrior Decks. This allows you to search your deck for the Warriors that you need for your combos instead of going with the luck of the draw.
  • Marauding Captain
    • This card may have low stats and work best in a Warrior Deck but it is a staple for any kind of Swarm Deck.
  • Spear Dragon
    • Level 4 1900 ATK with Piercing damage is a big plus albeit not perfect due to 0 DEF and having to switch to DEF mode after attacking.
  • Luster Dragon #2 (What was wrong with Emerald Dragon? Honestly...)
    • Good addition to a Dragon Deck with 2400 ATK Level 6.
  • A Legendary Ocean
    • Counts as Umi, gives a 200 ATK boost to WATER Monsters, and lowers the level of WATER Monsters by 1 allowing you to summon Level 5 monsters with no Tribute and Level 7 with only 1 Tribute. Without this card, Water Decks wouldn't be a thing.
  • Airknight Parshath (What's a Parshath? or is that his name?)
    • Yes it requires a tribute for only 1900 ATK but it has piercing damage as well as lets you draw a card when you deal damage. A good positive effect for 1900 ATK with a tribute.
Meh:
  • Patrician of Darkness
    • Not terrible stats and a fun effect. The problem is that his effect requires other creatures to be on the field or your opponent to have low ATK monsters.
  • Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi
    • Excellent stats, demolishes your opponent's hand BUT is a Spirit Monster that requires 2 tributes. Only really useful in Spirit Decks.
Stupid:
As you can tell, I really like this pack and while there are some cards that deserve a spot somewhere on any of these lists, I'm not wanting to write a novel on one pack. Do you agree with my opinions? Disagree? Think there's a card worth mentioning that I may have looked over? Let me know in the comments below!
